Westside Discs
About Westside Discs
Westside Discs began in Finland when Timo Pursio and Janne Penttilä teamed up to create a disc golf brand inspired by Nordic folklore and culture. Penttilä, the original Finnish owner, helped establish Westside Discs OY and partnered with Latitude 64 in Sweden to manufacture their molds starting in 2009. This move ensured top-tier production quality and gave Westside an international presence. Pursio focused on disc development and design, while Penttilä handled the brand’s business side until he sold his stake during the 2018 buyout.
From the start, Westside stood out by naming discs in both Finnish and English—giving players molds like the Tursas (Walrus) and Sword (Miekka). Their lineup quickly gained a reputation for unique themes and reliable performance.
Over the years, Westside Discs has sponsored professional players such as Matt Orum and Heidi Laine, though their sponsorship roster has remained small. Since the House of Discs merger, Westside has scaled back on broad sponsorships, instead focusing on a few well-known names to represent their brand worldwide.
Where are Westside Discs From?
Westside Discs are a Finnish-born disc golf brand that has always been manufactured in Sweden. The company was originally founded in Finland by Timo Pursio and Janne Penttilä, and their discs reflect those roots with names in both Finnish and English, inspired by Nordic folklore and legends.
Even though the brand started in Finland, all Westside discs have been produced since the beginning by Latitude 64 in Skellefteå, Sweden, one of the most respected disc manufacturers in the world. This partnership has ensured that Westside Discs maintain the same high production quality as Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs, while still carrying their uniquely Finnish identity.
Who owns Westside Discs?
Westside Discs was originally founded in Finland by Timo Pursio and Janne Penttilä. Penttilä owned Westside Discs OY and worked closely with Pursio to build the brand, while Latitude 64 in Sweden handled all disc production. In the U.S., Dynamic Discs became the primary distributor, helping the brand gain major traction.
In 2018, Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs purchased Westside outright. During this buyout, Janne Penttilä sold his shares and stepped away from the company, leaving ownership split between Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs.
Later, with the formation of the House of Discs collective, Westside Discs officially came under their ownership. When House of Discs acquired Dynamic Discs, they also gained control of Westside, bringing the brand into the larger family of European and U.S. disc golf companies under the same umbrella.
